I threw my first surprise party last night. I'd been working on it for several weeks because my friend, Sara, is pretty good at figuring stuff out. Well, we had her bluffed until about 45 minutes before the party. The dead give-away was her own car (that her mom was driving) parked in the driveway one house before the host home. The host home was my mom's house, which was an easy place to convince Sara we were going. We had the kids with us and Mimi was going to babysit while we went out to eat.
There's more to the story about the cars. They were supposed to park one house PAST my mom's. She had called the neighbor and made sure it was ok if they all parked their cars there for the evening. We were all having a great time playing water volleyball when I saw Sara and her mom whispering about something very serious. Sara's mother and grandmother were getting ready to take her kids home because it was getting late. When they walked over to the neighbor's house to get the car, the tires were flat!! Some people had moved their cars back over to my mom's driveway already, but if they were in the neighbor's driveway, tires were flat! I asked Sara's sister why there always has to be drama when the Thomas sisters are involved!
My body is sore this morning from a combination of water volleyball, running, and moving furniture. Friday evening we helped Jason's sister move all of her stuff out of her house. She and Bryon are officially separating, and it just breaks my heart for all of them. Little Oakley is barely 5 months old and Kayli is almost 4. I just don't understand.
Back to happy thoughts. Braden said something perfect last night. We had put him to bed, and we were watching SportCenter in our bedroom. It was after 11:00, and he came into our room. "I need to tell you some questions." Before we knew it, he was snuggled down between the two of us. Jason asked him what he was up to, and Braden told us he wanted to sleep in our bed. After about 10 seconds of silence, Braden said, "This is a great family." What a boy!
