"It is what it is." This is not my original, I must admit. A friend of ours who was recently deployed to Iraq was using this phrase to deal with his predicament. I've been finding myself using it lately, mostly when I'm talking to myself. There are so many things that we can't control and don't particularly appreciate, yet it is what it is! I know that's kind of a deep thought for me, especially at this hour.
What a fun evening! Sara came over and joined me in a women's league basketball game. We had to make a trip to the in-laws for a candle, then she decided to stay and watch Lost with us. It was good for both of us to get a little bonus time of hanging out. Now it's 2 hours past my bedtime because I wanted to watch The Unit that we Tivo'ed last night. No, we are not TV junkies, these are the only two shows that we watch!
The children, the children, that's what this blog is really about. Well, I took them both to the dentist today for a check-up and cleaning. Both are cavity-free! We left that office with some serious loot. They get a bag of goodies like toothpaste, brush, floss, then a prize out of the drawer, a sticker, and a balloon! That should take the fear out of going to see the dentist. All I remember about going to the dentist as a kid was hearing that I had yet another cavity. I can still see my big sister in the doorway laughing at me with my laughing gas on! How do our brains remember those random things so clearly?
Back to the kids! Landry is in some kind of a clingy phase. She thinks I should be available at all times, and she is even getting upset when I leave her at the preschool. Braden is bigger than ever. His newest favorite sport is basketball. Since we've been watching the NCAA tournament lately, he is all about learning to play basketball.
We had a great weekend at the tail end of Spring Break. I took a day off (unpaid thanks to that lovely 90 day probationary period... it is what it is) and we built a little patio in the backyard. Jason's parents had bought us some patio furniture, and he was opposed to just setting it out in the grass. It's made out of cobblestones, kind of a charcoal color. I really did enjoy working on it, even if it was my day off! We put it close to the fence so that it catches the earliest shade. It is really nice to just sit out there and watch the kids play. The weather has been great for them to spend a lot of time outside, which is much better than being stuck inside. Jason and I agree that Braden needs to have less of a love and craving for cartoons and movies. He could sit there all day and stare at the TV. Landry, on the other hand, can barely sit still for a few minutes. How can they be so different?
This weekend is a marriage retreat in Blanco. That word "retreat" sounds so inviting to me that I almost salivate when I hear it. The kids will be staying with Papa and Gram from Friday to Sunday. It's been long time since we've left them for a weekend, but we need that time without the kids. They probably won't even want to come back with us when we go to get them Sunday. Well, Braden might want to stay, but Landry will probably be ready to see her momma! That's our update for now, I'll try to stay on top of it more than every 7-10 days!
