Not guilty

Now I know why it is so hard to get a conviction in the criminal court system. We listened to testimony and attorneys for almost four hours yesterday in a case that was pretty straightforward. Let me re-phrase that, in my opinion it was straightforward. We had a panel of six jurors, myself being the only female. It was a DWI case. We deliberated for over two hours on the evidence that was presented to us. One guy had decided from the moment it started that the defendant was not guilty. Let me just say that this was very much a learning experience, but it was also quite frustrating. There was one guy who would only consider what was on video tape. He absolutely refused to take the word of the trooper on anything that happened outside of the video camera. We ended up with a verdict because we didn't want it to be a mistrial and get thrown out later. Why does it have to be unanimous?? I figure the guy learned his lesson, at least I'm telling myself that so I feel better about him getting off. We got out of the courtroom at 8:15, so I earned my jury money!
