At least we know what we are dealing with... I got a call from our pediatrician first thing this morning. Not a good sign when the doctor, not the nurse, is on the line! She shared with me that the lab culture from Landry's ear drainage came back positive for MRSA. That is a mean and nasty bacteria (Staph) that is very resistant to many antibiotics. It's all making sense now, right? For me, too! She faxed the results to our new ENT, who we went to see this afternoon in Southlake. He says we have to have perseverence because it will take time to find exactly the right drug to kill this bacteria. He is not concerned about her hearing or the mechanics of her inner ear, and he says the tubes are doing what they are supposed to do (drain all that junk out). She is now on the first trial of oral antibiotics (a new one) and some new ear drops. She must have her ears plugged for bath time, and we found the ones that are truly waterproof.
Jason and I have been cleaning since we got home. We're trying to do anything and everything to make her better. There's no telling how the bacteria got in there- could be from the procedure for tubes, could be something I drug home from work, could be from out in the community. She's a real trooper, so please say a prayer for her to get rid of this quickly!
